They reason, \u201cSurely, it couldn\u2019t be all that bad.\u201d For those still not convinced, perhaps a few comments \u201cstraight from the horse\u2019s mouth\u201d will change your minds. All the quotations from Madalyn Murray O\u2019Hair in the balance of this column were taken from an interview with the Godless \u201cJoan of Arc\u201d conducted by Philip Nobile, a reporter for the Universal Press Syndicate. The interview was conducted and published in <b>1978,<\/b> so one can safely assume that these statements still represented Mrs. O\u2019Hair\u2019s views at the time of her death in 1995.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">What were her plans for pushing atheism?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cWe decided that merely having our own Vatican (referring to her Austin headquarters, we suppose\u2014DM) wasn\u2019t enough. The religious community is never going to give up its dominance\u2026unless we vigorously assault them and wrest from them the freedoms the atheists should have. We will file suit after suit in court. We have 14 going now.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Among these suits, is one to have removed \u201cIn God We Trust\u201d from our money. When Mr. Nobile asked her what other remnants of religion she would like to rid the nation of, she replied: \u201cYou must be kidding. I\u2019d like to close down every (profanity deleted) church in the country.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Mrs. O\u2019Hair liked to project the image that she was the all-time champion of civil rights. It\u2019s strange how quickly she and various other special interest groups (Homosexuals, Women\u2019s Libbers, etc.) forget their \u201ccivil rights\u201d dictum when it comes to the civil rights of their opponents. When asked, \u201cI thought you just wanted civil rights for atheists? What have you got against churchgoers exercising their religious rights?\u201d she replied:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cFrom the atheist viewpoint, religion is the wildest form of insanity. I would turn every church into a home for the aged or an out-patient clinic., etc. Christianity, which is anti-science, anti-life, anti-sex, anti-woman, anti-freedom, anti-peace is detrimental to the United States.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In case you missed it, let me tell you what Mrs. O\u2019Hair meant by the above-listed terms:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">anti-science\u2014opposes those who believe in creation rather than evolution<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">anti-life\u2014against those who deplore abortion as a means of population control<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">anti-sex\u2014defies those who stand for Biblical sexual conduct<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">anti-woman\u2014disagrees with those who respect the God-given roles of man and woman<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">anti-freedom\u2014challenges those who believe man must live by God\u2019s laws, rather than in wild abandon<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">anti-peace\u2014opposes those who do not believe in \u201cpeace at any price\u201d compromise<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 She boldly stated that religion \u201cshould be outlawed.\u201d Do you see why many of us are very concerned at her continued influence?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 10pt;\">[<strong>Note:<\/strong> I wrote this article for and it was published in <em>The Edifier, <\/em>weekly bulletin of Pearl Street Church of Christ, Denton, TX, November 30, 1982, of which I was editor.]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 10pt;\"><strong>Attribution:<\/strong> From <em>thescripturecache.com<\/em>; Dub McClish, owner and administrator.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Views: 5[Note: This MS is available in larger font on our Brief Articles\u00a02 page.] Some seem to think that those of us who continue to warn of the perils of militant atheism and humanism are merely alarmists.
