{"id":19109,"date":"2022-02-22T17:04:28","date_gmt":"2022-02-22T17:04:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thescripturecache.com\/?p=19109"},"modified":"2022-02-22T17:05:22","modified_gmt":"2022-02-22T17:05:22","slug":"heres-how-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thescripturecache.com\/?p=19109","title":{"rendered":"Here&#8217;s How\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Views: 0<\/p><p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">[<strong>Note: <\/strong>This MS is available in larger font on our <strong>Brief Articles 1<\/strong> page.]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">A leaflet making the rounds purports to instruct us on the way to have \u201can eternal relationship with God.\u201d The suggested four-point plan is as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Admit Your Sin<\/strong>\u2014\u201cFor all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God\u201d (Rom. 3:23).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Put Your Trust in Jesus Christ<\/strong>\u2014\u201cGod loves us so much that He gave us His only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not die, but will have everlasting life\u201d (John 3:16).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Make Your Decision<\/strong>\u2014\u201cIf you confess with your mouth that \u2018Jesus is Lord!\u2019 and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved\u201d (Rom. 10:9)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Now Turn Away from Your Sin<em>\u2014<\/em><\/strong>\u201cRepent, then turn to God so that your sins will be forgiven\u201d (Acts 3:19)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The four points were concluded with a suggested prayer:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">I now believe that Christ died for me so God could forgive my sin. I have now received the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and with His strength I will turn from my sin.\u2014Amen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Bible believers can applaud the zeal and sincerity of the leaflet\u2019s distributors. However, their suggested way to Heaven gives false hope in this life and will leave one sorely disappointed at The Judgment. Let us examine the leaflet\u2019s plan:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">If one does not admit he is a sinner, in need of God\u2019s grace, he will never approach Him for salvation. So far, so good.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">If one doesn\u2019t believe in\/trust Jesus as the Savior\u2014the only One\u2014he cannot be saved. Jesus is the only way to the Father (John 14:6). OK, so far.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">One must confess with the mouth the faith that is in the heart. OK, but actually the point of \u201cdecision\u201d is repentance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">One must also repent of his sins and turn to God to be saved.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Here the leaflet comes up short, making no distinction between <em>repent <\/em>and <em>turn <\/em>and leaving the impression that forgiveness of sins is granted at the point of repentance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Note the following: <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><em>Repent <\/em>and <em>turn <\/em>in Acts 3:19 are different words with different meanings (unless the instructions are merely to repent and repent or turn and turn. <em>Repent <\/em>means to change one\u2019s mind. <em>Turn <\/em>is a separate action meaning to change one\u2019s life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">This change must have a beginning point, which is the act of baptism (Rom. 6:4\u2014\u201cnewness of life\u201d). The same Peter who directed believers to \u201crepent and be baptized\u201d on Pentecost told them here to \u201crepent and turn.\u201d Did he preach different plans to different hearers? Absolutely not!
