The statement resolved by the Synod of Dort states: \u201cAll men are conceived in sin, and born the children of wrath, indisposed to all saving good, propense to evil\u2026\u201d The doctrine is sometimes called \u201cTotal Hereditary Depravity\u201d and is stated as follows in the Presbyterian Confession:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n They (Adam and Eve – DM) being the root of all mankind, the guilt of this sin was imputed, and the same death in sin and corrupted natured conveyed to all posterity, descending from them by ordinary generation. From this original corruption, whereby we are utterly indisposed, disabled, and made opposite to all good and wholly inclined to all evil, do proceed all actual transgressions (Ch. VI, Sec. 3\u20134).<\/span><\/p>\n The doctrine simply argues that the \u201coriginal\u201d sin of Adam and Eve has been inherited by every human being, causing us to be sinners from birth and incapable of doing any good things.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 One fair test of any doctrine is its consequences. If the Calvinistic doctrine of original sin and hereditary depravity is true, then:<\/span><\/p>\n Sin and its guilt are always personal in the Bible (1 John 3:4; Eze. 18:20).
