{"id":2786,"date":"2018-02-16T21:47:05","date_gmt":"2018-02-16T21:47:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thescripturecache.com\/?p=2786"},"modified":"2022-04-16T15:53:03","modified_gmt":"2022-04-16T15:53:03","slug":"the-easter-season-from-god-or-man","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thescripturecache.com\/?p=2786","title":{"rendered":"The &#8220;Easter&#8221; Season\u2014from God or Man?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Views: 3<\/p><p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;\">[<strong>Note: <\/strong>This MS is available in larger font on our <strong>Brief Articles 2<\/strong> page.]<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The \u201cEaster\u201d season, involves much more than \u201cEaster Sunday.\u201d It begins with&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cMardi Gras\u201d (French for \u201cFat Tuesday,\u201d also called \u201cShrove Tuesday\u201d), referring to the day before the beginning of the traditional season of \u201cLent,\u201d which is called&#8230;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cAsh Wednesday\u201d (observers are often marked by an ash \u201ccross\u201d on their foreheads), which continues for 40 days (46, including Sundays), ending on \u201cEaster\u201d Sunday.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cMaundy Thursday\u201d follows \u201cAsh Wednesday,\u201d which, in turn, precedes&#8230;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cGood Friday,\u201d the alleged day of Jesus\u2019 crucifixion (which is an ironic name for the day of the Lord\u2019s terrible suffering), and is followed by&#8230;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cHoly Saturday,\u201d which then leads to&#8230;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">\u201cEaster Sunday,\u201d the supposed anniversary of the Lord\u2019s Resurrection.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The \u201cLenten season\u201d (celebrated by Roman Catholic, Orthodox, and many Protestant denominations), is a time during which celebrants are urged repent of and abstain from some vice and\/or make some \u201csacrifice.\u201d Mardi Gras is the Lent-observer\u2019s last chance to engage in excess and uninhibited behavior before the self-denial of Lent limits his or her behavior. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">All of the above are practiced in the name of Christianity, which, if genuine, must seek its authority from Jesus Christ, its Founder and Namesake, via His New Testament<strong>. <\/strong>Which of these items is even mentioned in the Bible\u2014all, three, two, any of them? The correct answer is <strong>four<\/strong> of them, <strong>but in no way related to any of the foregoing practices<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The Bible records numerous periods of time (days or years) involving the number <em>40<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Jesus arose from the dead (Mat. 28:1\u201310, et al.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Jesus requires self-denial of His followers (Luke 9:23, et al.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Jesus requires men to repent of their sins (Luke 13:3, 5, et al.)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><em>Easter <\/em>appears in the King James Version (Acts 12:4), but as an unfortunate and erroneous <strong>interpretation <\/strong>rather than a correct <strong>translation<\/strong>. This passage refers to the Jewish Passover feast, rather than to Jesus\u2019 Resurrection, as subsequent versions correctly translate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">As sincere as many people are in their observance of Lent, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday (certainly so of Mardi Gras!), none of these has any Biblical origin or basis whatsoever. Rather, they reflect a blend of the post-apostolic traditions and Paganism of the Roman Catholic Church, several centuries too late to possess any semblance of Scriptural authority.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The extremes to which some have gone in observing Lent may be seen in some religionists who have been seduced by the left-wing political hoax of man-made \u201cclimate change.\u201d One group has offered a \u201cLenten Carbon Fast\u201d Calendar, urging such self-sacrifices as altering one\u2019s thermostat setting, stopping window\/door drafts, checking one\u2019s auto tire pressure, and buying \u201crenewable energy credits.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The entire Easter system\/calendar is totally devoid of Biblical example or precept\u2014even without the \u201cclimate change\u201d absurdity.
