We know not on what day it was<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

The Savior-babe was born;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

We only know that this event<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

With wonder is adorned.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

While early Christians are not known<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Who kept the Christ-child\u2019s birth;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It must be placed near to His death<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

\u00a0In all events of worth.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

We wonder at the tasteful words<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

That simply tell the tale<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Of Heaven\u2019s Child, the End of Grace,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Our Means beyond the veil.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The sheer finesse of Luke and Levi<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Leave us struck with awe,<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

As Mary\u2019s secret they reveal<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

With absence of all flaw.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And then we stand amazed to see<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Just where His birth occurred.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Not Jericho or Zion boasts<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

The sound of angels heard.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

But Bethlehem, the village small\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

No birthplace for a crown\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Providing but a stable-stall<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

To lay Messiah down.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And what think ye of sages, who,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Attracted by His star,<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Would make their way, by night and day,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

\u00a0From such a distance far,<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

To ask, \u201dWhere is the new-born king,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Him honor we would pay?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And then to kneel on hallowed straw<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

And gifts before Him lay?<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

But now consider Herod\u2019s scheme,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

When wrapped in jealous rage\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

A tiny Babe would steal his throne,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

So murder he must wage.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

With cruel heart and bloody hands<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

He sought Immanuel\u2019s place,<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

But then a Father\u2019s perfect love<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Preserved Him for our race.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Behold! It was with angel-voice<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

The first announcement came;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

To virgin Mary Gabriel spoke<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

And called her Baby\u2019s name.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

To Joseph meek, to shepherd\u2019s lone,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Angelic word was giv\u2019n.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It\u2019s wondrous that this Infant\u2019s birth<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Was paid such note by Heav\u2019n!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

We marvel as we read about<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

The source of Jesus\u2019 life.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

How could He form in Mary\u2019s womb<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

E\u2019er Joseph knew his wife?<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The seed of life from which Christ grew,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Unlike all others known,<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Came not from human fatherhood,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

But from Almighty\u2019s throne.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

But what should these astounding facts<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Provoke within my heart\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

To merely stand in awe-struck trance,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

And see them soon depart?<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cNay, nay,\u201d the answer swiftly flies,<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

In words sent from above,<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cBut faith, obedience, and service true<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Must be my gifts of love.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
