This statement so fully embodies the theme of the Bible that some have called it \u201cthe Bible in miniature.\u201d It provides an astounding list of the greatest entities of their kind:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><strong>The greatest Being\u2014God.<\/strong> He is introduced to us in the fourth word of the Bible as the Creator of all things (Gen. 1:1). He is the only adequate and rational explanation of the universe.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><strong>The greatest force\u2014love. <\/strong>Love is God\u2019s motivation for blessing men so abundantly: \u201cGod is love\u201d (1 John 4:8). We are to love each other because He first loved us (v. 19). Of all ethical forces, love is the one that endures, abides, and prevails (1 Cor. 13:13).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><strong>The greatest scope\u2014the world.<\/strong> God\u2019s love embraces all, so the gift of His Son includes all\u2014\u201c<strong>whosoever<\/strong>\u201d may accept this great gift. This fact does not mean universal salvation, but universal <strong>availability<\/strong> of salvation. Jesus is the propitiation for the sins of \u201cthe whole world\u201d (1 John 2:2).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><strong>The greatest gift\u2014God\u2019s Son.<\/strong> Men had no claim on this gift to obligate God to give it. He gave His Son as a matter of grace and mercy toward us. The Son gave His life, freely laying it down for sinful rebels against their Creator (John 10:17\u201318). His sinless, spotless blood\u2014worth more than all earthly wealth\u2014can alone redeem men from sin (1 Pet. 1:18\u201319).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><strong>The greatest trust\u2014belief in Christ. <\/strong>There is none other so great as God\u2019s Son in whom to place one\u2019s faith. <em>Belief<\/em> implies far more than mere mental assent to Jesus\u2019 Deity. It stands as a figure of speech for all the Biblical requirements for salvation: faith, repentance, confession of faith, baptism, and faithful living (Acts 17:30; Rom. 10:9\u201310; John 3:5; Acts 2:38; 1 Cor. 15:58). The New Testament teaches constantly that salvation is by <strong>faith<\/strong>, but <strong>never<\/strong> by \u201cfaith alone.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><strong>The greatest loss\u2014perish.<\/strong> On the cross, Jesus paid the price sufficient to save all, but knew in advance that most would will reject Him and be lost (Mat. 7:13\u201314). If one amassed all the world\u2019s wealth, but lost his soul in Hell, he would lose all\u2014eternally and without remedy (16:26).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><strong>The greatest blessing\u2014eternal life. <\/strong>Here we see the aim of God\u2019s gift and Jesus\u2019 sacrifice.
