In this series of brief articles, the following events have been documented as occurring when Christ comes again:
- All the dead, both good and evil, will be raised (John 5:28–29)
- The living saints will be changed and made ready for Heaven (1 Cor. 15:51–53), Phi. 3:20–21); 1 John 3:2)
- All the saints (the raised dead and the changed living) will be gathered to Christ in the air to be with Him forever (1 The. 4:17). There are yet other things that will occur when Christ comes.
There are yet other things that will occur when Christ comes:
The world will end in the dissolution of the physical universe. The disciples once asked Jesus, “What shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” (Mat. 24:3). It seems apparent that they viewed these as related events, but it is certain that Jesus did by giving a single answer to the dual question (Mat. 24:36–44). The day is coming, God said, when:
…Yet once more will I make to tremble not the earth only, but also the heaven. And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that have been made, that those things which are not shaken may remain. (Heb. 12:26–27).
The Heavens and the earth are going to be shaken and removed, according to this passage, and only indestructible, spiritual elements will survive, which includes His Kingdom, members of His church (v. 28). But when will this great shaking and removal take place?
But the day of the Lord (a reference in the Scriptures to the coming of Christ, cf 2 Pet. 2:4–DM) will come as a thief; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are therein shall be burned up (2 Pet. 3:10).
The Bible speaks of only one “second” coming. When Christ comes, the Heavens and the earth will be no more. This renders it utterly impossible for Christ to establish a Kingdom on earth when He comes. He now reigns over His Kingdom, His church (1 Cor. 15:24f).
